The YouTube platform has confirmed exclusively to Tubefilter that it will permanently abandon YouTube Rewind, the annual event that YouTube is keen on at the end of the year as a summary of the most important and most important topics that have characterized the platform during the past year, and the new decision comes after a lot of criticism over the past years.
According to the site, the decision has been made on the 10th anniversary of the launch of YouTube Rewind. YouTube says it's not abandoning the project because of the widespread criticism it has received over recent efforts, but because its platform has become so massive that it's impossible to encapsulate its breadth and variety within a minute of assembly. Accordingly, YouTube says it will pass the job on to creators, who have been increasingly producing their own versions of YouTube Rewind in recent years.
A YouTube spokesperson told Tubefilter: "Since Rewind started in 2011, we've seen creators from MrBeast [54 million views], elrubiusOMG, Slayy Point, and others create their own end-of-year videos, capturing the year Uniquely from every perspective. We'll continue to be inspired to see the countless ways the world's most creative content producers are summarizing the end of the year in their video summaries, as YouTube retires with its rewind video."
Tubefilter notes that while acknowledging that content creators are the best way forward for Rewind, YouTube will not fund any of these efforts, although it will promote them on its social channels. The company did not fully exit the work of the year-end summary. And it will go on to produce annual trend lists, which categorize noteworthy videos and creators across different categories. YouTube also cited the Streamy Awards, which is co-produced by Tubefilter, as another way it will continue to celebrate the year in online video.
